Project Link
The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) is starting work on Phase One of the connection of Sabino Canyon Road to Kolb Road. The new Sabino Canyon Road will extend south from Tanque Verde Road, near the northern boundary of Morris K. Udall Regional Park, to Kolb Road, approximately one-quarter mile north of Speedway Boulevard. This project is part of the $2.1 billion, 20-year Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) plan that was approved by voters in May 2006. Additional funding will be provided through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
During Phase One, the project team will focus on engaging the public to gather input. During this process, a Community Oversight Committee (COC) will be formed to guide project development. Information and applications will be forthcoming.
Additionally, the project team will begin to gather data needed for future phases. Surveyors have been in the project area and exploratory drilling has taken place at the landfill. Initial environmental data gathering is also taking place. Improvements included in the RTA plan:
* Four-lane roadway * Bike lanes * Sidewalks
Schedule:
* Public meetings to begin late summer 2009 * Phase Two: Conceptual Design o COC meetings to garner input from residents, businesses and park representatives o Additional public meetings to present project information and gather input o Ongoing neighborhood meetings * Phase Three: Final Design * Construction of this project is designated in the RTA plan to begin spring 2011
