We’ve recently been given a report that a rabid bat (dead) was found on the porch of a Hacienda Del Joven homeowner.
Pima County Animal control will collect dead/alive bats from your property and test them for rabies.

Some “Bat” info …
Rabies is an infectious viral disease that affects the nervous system of humans and other mammals. People get rabies from the bite of an animal infected with rabies (a rabid animal). Any wild mammal, like a raccoon, skunk, fox, coyote or bat can have rabies and transmit it to people. Dogs and cats, and other domestic animals can also transmit rabies. It is also possible, but quite rare, that people may get rabies if infectious material, such as saliva, from a rabid animal, gets directly into their eyes, nose, mouth or a wound.
Because rabies is a fatal disease, the goal of the Pima Animal Care Center is, first, to prevent human exposure to rabies through education and, second, to respond to any cases in which exposure to a rabid animal might have occurred and impound the animal for quarantine or laboratory testing to determine whether or not exposure occurred.
Most of the rabid animals found recently in Pima County are bats. Awareness of the facts about rabies can help people protect themselves, their families and their pets. This information bats and rabies may also help to clear up misunderstandings about bats. For more information on rabies visit the rabies page on the CDC (Center for Disease Control) site. |

The annual HOA meeting normally held in Decemeber of each year has been moved to October. This change was voted on and passed by the Board of Directors. The goal here was to move the meeting from December to avoid holiday/seasonal conflicts and to possibly improve attendance.
The 2010 annual HOA meeting will be held at Udall Center on October 12th, from 6:00 to 8:00pm. |

Dear Members,
As you may have noticed by now the March 2010 newsletter arrived late. There was an error on behalf of the printer that resulted in the newsletter not being printed and mailed until Friday 4/9/2010. The Spring Neighborhood Cleanup event (roll-off's) was scheduled for Saturday 4/10/2010. We decided to continue with the printing of the newsletter as this event was the only time sensitive event effected by the print mishap.
We mailed out over 360 emails on 3/25/2010 and 4/9/2010 as reminders and also placed signs on cloud road with reminders of the event as well. The last newsletter of 2009 also had the 4/10/2010 date listed and both the "Upcoming Events" and "Calendar" sections on the website had the dates listed since 2009.
We anticipated a decline in the attendance of the Spring Roll-Off but early records are indicating that this may not have been the case as utilization remained the same if not higher.
We apologize for this print mishap and have safeguards in place to prevent this from happening in the future.
As a reminder, please make sure to have your current email listed on all dues submission forms and to also stop by the website to keep current on SVHAI events.
Thank you,
Sabino Vista Homeowners Association, Inc. |
