Burglars strike Northeast side homes while residents sleep. Source: KVOA - Posted - 11/12/2009 at 5:28PM by Lupita Murillo
As people were sleeping, robbers were creeping inside some homes onthe Northeast side. The Pima County Sheriff's Department is investigating multipleburglaries that occurred in the Sabino Canyon and Cloud areas justdays ago.
One victim was ripped off early Wednesday morning. He shows DetectivePhil Santucci, some tire tracks the suspects left behind. "Looks like they were right here; they may have backed up when theywere leaving." The victim says he left his truck unlocked, he says they got into histruck and used his garage door opener. The burglars found a weapon in one vehicle, but they never made itinside the house. The victim says he had his alarm on. The homeowner says several guns were stolen from his truck.
Det. Santucci is working the case and at least three other similarcases all occurring November 10th and November 11th. As sheriff's deputies were at one house taking the report, they got a call of another burglary that occurred. Apparently, in that case, the burglars went inside the house with the people sleeping and took the woman's purse and stole her car. "Burglars are opportunists and will look for unlocked doors, unlocked or open windows or pet doors," says Det. Santucci. This concerns neighbors, so they're taking precautions not to be victims. Marguerite Brown says, "We have a complete alarm system, we have deadbolts, we have a dog, we have cameras, and we have motion detectors." Most important she locks her doors including her car even if it's inside the garage.

THE PRESIDENT'S LETTER
The new Board of Directors elected after the annual meeting in December, 2008, summarized above, has been active.
The Board held meetings in 2009 each month January through May. After a break in June, July, and August, monthly meetings started again in September. These meetings are in accord with the SVHAI by-laws, which require at least one meeting per quarter.
The board wishes to thank Linda Ryburn, Bill Dunk, and Miguel Borunda for their efforts this past year and regrets that they had to resign from the board due to other obligations.
We are pleased to welcome new board member Helene Feinerman, who joined us in April.
Four Board positions and one Committee Head positions remain to be filled this year. Also, six of fourteen Neighborhood Representative positions remain to be filled. The Board would welcome volunteers for any of the open positions. Contact Mary or Chris Cooper if you have an interest in this. Neighborhood “Reps” attend the monthly Board meetings and are a good first contact for anyone with a complaint/comment. You are also encouraged to contact the website or individual members at the above addresses with any of your concerns.

|
|
|
Project Link
The City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT) is starting work on Phase One of the connection of Sabino Canyon Road to Kolb Road. The new Sabino Canyon Road will extend south from Tanque Verde Road, near the northern boundary of Morris K. Udall Regional Park, to Kolb Road, approximately one-quarter mile north of Speedway Boulevard. This project is part of the $2.1 billion, 20-year Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) plan that was approved by voters in May 2006. Additional funding will be provided through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
During Phase One, the project team will focus on engaging the public to gather input. During this process, a Community Oversight Committee (COC) will be formed to guide project development. Information and applications will be forthcoming.
